To extract the sample, the search criteria on the Web site was used to display all the profiles for each gender and race combination in the age range within 50 miles of each city.
Then, to get as representative a sample as possible within each race/gender combination in each city, profiles were sorted by how recently they were posted or edited; the first 200 profiles that appeared within each race/gender/city were then selected.
Internet daters' profiles of self-identified Asian, Black, Latino, and White men and women seeking opposite-sex dates were collected and coded from Yahoo Personals, which was the most popular national online dating web site in 20.

https://doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR36347.v1 The Yahoo Personals Dating Preferences Study sought to examine the dating preferences of online daters in four major metropolitan areas: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta.
But like so many other things on the Inter Web, it’s an illusion.
Hot is going to fail, and not because it caters to a niche crowd.
As more people post their personals, online dating has gone from just trying to hook up to deeply layered game theory.
Niche sites like Hot may seem like a tempting, time-saving filter — eliminating the risk of dating, or Heaven forbid, falling for, a genetic inferior. For Art Boy, I deviated from my usual e-flirting strategy and contacted him first. There was no way of knowing if he was “hot enough” or what, because instead of a photo, Art Boy posted an illustration of himself as a cartoon. Three or four years later, we’re still together, which counts as successful, too, I guess.Charming and hilarious, Boy Millionaire looked great on paper (I saw his tax return). He also came with a complete leather-bound set of emotional issues — just like I like ‘em. After four and a half months, I ended it via e-mail.(Don’t judge me — it’s what he preferred.) Still, it counts as successful.Tags: Adult Dating, affair dating, sex dating
